Whenever factors such as location, structure, and substance agree, the Garbe Group also has the courage to transform a former office high-rise into residential units – integrating a cultural meeting place with retail trade and a restaurant.
With the GoltsteinForum in Cologne-Bayenthal, the Garbe Group worked with partners Bernd Voswinkel Real Estate and AWIP Real Estate Project Development to not only restructure and design a former office high-rise, they developed a new residential and shopping district, creating new living-spaces and workplaces in an ideal location near the town centre and the Rhine shores. A good example of the opportunities to be found in the structural change of microlocations, because only with comprehensive redevelopment and new construction measures could new values emerge with creativity and know-how.
The urban development goal of retaining the local infrastructure centre and simultaneously creating a large offer of newly-built apartments was the guiding theme of the project development. Eighty high-quality residential units were converted from the former office space in the 11-story high-rise. The neighbouring new construction project Wohncarrée Alteburger Street is a part of the total project: A housing development with sixty-eight flatsin three new buildings is being constructed here.
